Washington Redskins vs New Orleans Saints 2012 NFL Week 1 Point Spreads
Despite the fact that Robert Griffin III has yet to actually sign an NFL contract, everyone expects the reigning Heisman Trophy winner to be under center when the Washington Redskins open the 2012 NFL season against the New Orleans Saints.
Although the man simply known as RG3 is one of 30 rookies yet to be unsigned, the former two overall pick in this year’s draft doesn’t seem too worried about contract negotiations. After partaking in a Redskins minicamp, the Baylor product spoke to reporters about his ongoing contractual situation:
“I talked to my agent the other day, and he said they had been talking last week then took a break over the weekend, but from what I’ve heard I think it’s gonna get done,” he said. “I think my agent and the Redskins both know it’s paramount for me to be in camp on time, and I think they’re going to work towards that.”
Okay, so that pretty much tells you that the ‘Skins and RG3 should have reached an agreement within the next weeks or perhaps even days. The question now becomes: Will Drew Brees be there when Washington travels to the Big Easy in week 1?
It was recently reported that the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year clearly told the team not to expect him when training camp opens unless the two sides have reached a long-term deal.
Brees has already stated that he will in fact not sign the franchise tag the team put on him, nor will he be reporting for camp. During his appearance at this year’s ESPYs, the 6-time Pro Bowler did his best to sound optimistic about his current contract stalemate.
“I’m an eternal optimist, so I’m still very confident a deal will get done by Monday,” he said. “I think I’ve been around this league long enough to understand how this works at times. In a lot of cases, it does go down to the wire, and you need a stopping point in order to bring everyone together and make sure it can get done. That stopping point is Monday, so let’s hope we get something done by then.”
Opening kickoff for this highly-anticipated week 1 encounter is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 1 PM ET from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome live on FOX.
It appears that 2012 NFL Week 1 Point Spreads & oddsmakers are also very optimistic about Brees situation. At the present time, the New Orleans Saints are listed as a huge -9½ point favorite over the Washington Redskins, who will have a +9½-point cushion in the opener. The OVER/UNDER for this game is set at a bloated combined total of 50½ points scored.
