2012 Shoemaker Mile Stakes Odds, Picks & Predictions
INGLEWOOD, CA – Betfair Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, Los Angeles, California, will be the site for the 2012 Shoemaker Mile Stakes. This Grade I race is scheduled to take place on Saturday night, June 30th 2012 at 7:30 PM ET and it’ll be broadcasted live on TVG (Direct TV Channel: 601).
Eight of the best three-year-olds and up will be competing on the 1-mile (8 furlongs) turf track for the chance to win $300,000. According to 2012 Shoemaker Mile Stakes betting oddsmakers, Little Mike [9/5] will enter this race as the clear betting favorite, closely followed by Mr. Commons [+2/1].
The son of Spanish Steps has been nearly unbeatable in almost two years. With jockey Joe Bravo leading the way, Little Mike won an astonishing 6 races in his 8 starts in 2011 and 2012. Coming off an impressive win at the 2012 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (G1), this 5-year-old gelding is looking for consecutive Grade I victories as he makes his California debut.

However, standing in his way will be 4-year-old colt and projected runner up, Mr. Commons. The son of Artie Schiller and his camp are poised for an upset, especially following two, second-place finishes: one at Frank E. Kilroe Mile (G1) and the other at American Handica (G2) on May 26th.
“I haven’t lost any faith,” said his trainer John Shirreffs a few days before the 2012 Shoemaker Mile. “When they finish so close, you know he will get there sometime.”
