tiger woods vs phil mickelson 2012 us open oddsThe biggest tournament of the American golf season is finally here and so are the best golfer in the world and the greatest matchups!

As such, 2012 US Open organizers wasted no time in making the first two rounds memorable ones, as we will have a very special group for the opening 36 holes. Two former world No.1s will be matched up in what has been the biggest rivalry of this era: Tiger Woods vs Phil Mickelson.

“The one player I’m most concerned about if I play my best golf that may have a chance to beat me is Tiger,” said lefty. “And the fact that we are on the same wavelength, I’m always in favor of. Sometimes we’ll get a huge advantage in tee times, based on weather conditions or whatnot. If we’re in the same wavelength, neither of us will have a distinct advantage.”

This year, the 2012 US Open takes place at the picturesque Olympic Club, Lake Course in San Francisco, California, from Thursday June 14th thru Sunday June 17th.

14-time major champion, Woods looks to win his first since beating out Rocco Mediate at the 2008 US Open. Standing in Woods way will be 4-time major champ, Mickelson, who’s looking for his first ever US Open title.

These future Hall of Famers will be playing alongside one another for the opening first two rounds of the 2012 US Open including reigning Masters champion, Bubba Watson. Their tee times for Thursday and Friday will go as follows: 10:33 AM ET (Thursday) and 4:18 PM ET (Friday).

The question now becomes: who will win this stellar matchup between Tiger Woods vs Phil Mickelson? According to 2012 US Open oddsmakers, the man coming off his impressive victory at the Memorial is sure to have the odds in his favor.

Woods is currently listed as a 10/19 [-190 ML] betting odds favorite to win the matchup against Mickelson who has been given 3/2 odds [+150 ML] in their head-to-head battle. This week, as they both met for media obligations, Woods and Mickelson seemed to have contrasting feelings about matching up with one another.

“I don’t think we’re going to talk about a lot,” Woods said, downplaying the whole situation. “This is a major championship. We’ve got work to do. Any extra motivation? No. I’m just trying to get out there and position myself for Sunday.”

Mickelson, on the other hand, seemed to embrace the opportunity to take down the former world No.1, especially after his performance at the Memorial. Chasing his first US Open title, lefty believes his American counterpart will force him to elevate his game to the next level.

“It’s fabulous,” Mickelson said. “First of all, I get excited to play with Tiger, I love it. I think we all do. He gets the best out of me. I think when it’s time to tee off on Thursday I’ll be ready to play.”
