Ill Have Another Triple Crown Odds & 2012 Belmont Stakes Predictions
After getting minimal respect from oddsmakers for the 2012 Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, I’ll Have Another will have the odds to complete the coveted and elusive Triple Crown in his favor.
According to the latest 2012 Belmont Stakes betting odds, the son of Flower Alley is a 3/2 favorite above an 11-horse field that does not include his biggest rival and challenger.
After back-to-back disheartening loses to I’ll Have Another at the Derby and Preakness, trainer Bob Baffert decided that the early betting favorite for both of those events would not make the trip to Elmont, New York, on June 9th.
Although the Hall of Fame trainer claims that Bodemsiter’s consecutive runner-up finishes to the Triple Crown hopeful didn’t weigh into his decision, one has to believe he couldn’t stand having the same thing happen a third time. Instead, the horse that seems to be the prime candidate to play the ultimate spoiler in I’ll Have Another’s historic chase isn’t biting.
“We were never intending to run in the Belmont,” Baffert said referring to the son of Empire Maker. “We wanted to make the Derby and the Preakness was his sixth start this year.”
But Bodemeister isn’t the only horse that’s reluctant to challenge I’ll Have Another for a second or third time. As a matter of fact, the only returning horses willing to take another crack at the Triple Crown hopeful are Dullahan, Union Rags and Optimizer. The rest of the 2012 Belmont Stakes field will consist of horses that either did not participate or didn’t qualify for the Derby or Preakness.

It’s worth noting that the last one to accomplish this feat was Affirmative in 1978. The last thoroughbred to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown was Big Brown, when he finished in last place at the 2008 Belmont.
