Lions WR Calvin Johnson Graces NFL Madden 13 Cover
In order to decide which player would grace the cover of the longest, best selling football video game franchise ever, EA Sports decided to leave it in the hands of the fans. In the end, it came down to just two players: Detroit Lions wide receiver, Calvin Johnson and Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton.
Sixty-four players and 20 million votes later, Megatron was named the cover boy of this year’s Madden 13 cover! Johnson was selected to his second Pro Bowl this season, after winning the NFL Most Receiving Yards title. Megatron may have been No.2 in the draft but this week, he was No.1 for all the fan-voters that participated in the Madden 13 cover selection process.
“The people voted and they got what they wanted,” Johnson said. “I’m very grateful for that. It means a lot. This is great! Growing up watching and playing Madden all the time. Just to see yourself on this Madden and seeing all the guys that have been on this, years before… come on man!”
After recording 1,681 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns, Johnson became the richest wide out in the league. The Lions decided to compensate him for his efforts in 2011 by giving him a huge 8-year year extension worth a reported $132 million bucks. Will Megatron be immune to the infamous Madden curse?
As for the runner up, the former No.1 pick seemed content with finishing second in the voting, especially after a historic first year in the league. After the unveiling was announced, the 2011 NFL Rookie of the Year spoke about .
“I thought you guys loved me,” said Newton in a crying tone. “Big ups to Megatron, man. Good luck.”
