Odds to win the French Open 2012 Men’s Singles
With the second Grand Slam of the season looming, it’s now time to take a look at who tennis betting oddsmakers see winning the French Open 2012 Men’s Singles title. It’s no secret that very few have dominated the clay courts like Spaniard, Rafael Nadal. In fact, only one man has been better on this surface Bjorn Borg.
Having that said, it’s clear that the man simply known as “Rafa” hasn’t been the same player that that tied Borg with four consecutive Roland Garros titles. Despite the fact that the King of Clay has bounced back after losing in 2009 to win the last two French Opens, his health will certainly be an issue this season.
That, along with Novak Djokovic, who he has yet to defeat in almost two years, will be the determining factors in Nadal’s chances to complete the hat trick in Paris. A lingering left knee injury forced Rafa to withdraw from the 2012 Sony Ericsson Open in Miami just before his semifinal match against Andy Murray.
As we head into the clay-court season, the 25-year-old, 10-time Grand Slam isn’t sure how long he’ll be able to go. Nadal has already missed significant time because of this same injury, as he sat out a good portion of the season following his loss to Djokovic at the 2012 Australian Open.
“It’s OK now. [I need] time to see how it is at the top level, run without thinking about the knee, when I put all my pressure on the knee,” Nadal said this week. “It’s the start of the clay-court season for me, and hopefully it will work well.
“It’s not enough after 15 days off without chances to practice a lot because I couldn’t move my knee. I’m a little bit scared, but seems like today I am able to practice with no (problems).”
Nadal hasn’t won a single tournament since winning at Roland Garros a year ago. Against Djokovic, Rafa is winless in 7 consecutive attempts in 2011-12, with all of them coming in tournament finals — three in Grand Slams last year with the exception of the French. But even with the Serb’s recent dominance Nadal still leads on grass 2–1 and clay 9–2, but Djokovic leads on hard courts 11–5.
