Broncos Trading Tim Tebow After Peyton Manning Visit?
Don’t look now, Tebowmania, but quarterback Tim Tebow may be heading back to the state that saw him become a collegiate superstar! According to Pro Football Network, the John Elway and the Denver Broncos are ready and willing to trade the former Florida Gator standout should Peyton Manning chose Denver as his next destination.
Manning, Elway and head coach John Fox met at the Broncos facility this week for about six hours to discuss the possibility of having the 4-time MVP come to the Mile High. And as we all know, neither Fox nor Elway have been fans of Tebow from the beginning, which means they will not hesitate to send him packing first chance they get.
Earlier this year, Elway spoke about Tebow potentially being the franchise’s quarterback of the future. But if what they say is true, and actions do speak louder than words, then the fact that Elway and Fox are so hot for Manning tells you everything you really need to know concerning Tebow’s job security.
“He added a great spark for us, and we really had some good things happen to us,” Elway said at this year’s NFL Combine. “I was really happy with his progress. I know Tim’s going to work hard this offseason. We’re hoping that he’s going to be the guy for a long, long time.”
In addition, sources are also indicating if Manning does decide to play in Denver, Tebow will likely be traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars — a team struggling to get fans to attend their games. The Jags have already expressed very high interest in acquiring the unconventional signal-caller should this happen, and it would make all the business-sense in the world for them.
So, is Tebow headed to Jax to try and save the dying franchise? Well, according to new Jaguars owner Shahid Khan, he wouldn’t have passed up on Tebow in the draft like his predecessors did. Khan has also expressed his understanding on the impact a player with the popularity of a Tim Tebow brings to a team. Sources indicate that the Jaguars are “lining themselves up” for a potential deal for the former 2-time BCS national champ.
“100 percent I would have. Absolutely,” Khan said of when asked if he would have drafted Tebow. “The first Jaguars game I came to was in ’10, we played Denver here. There were a lot more Tebow jerseys in the Jaguars stands than the teal jerseys for any player, let’s face it. You hate to get into 20/20 hindsight and finger pointing, but certainly if I had anything to do with it. We probably won’t have a chance like that again.”
