RG3 Outshines Luck at 2012 NFL Combine
As funny as it sounds, Robert Griffin III has impressed every single NFL scout at this year’s NFL combine without having to throw a single pass. In fact, his stakes have gone up so much by his performance that many believe are starting to speculate whether or not the Indianapolis Colts till take RG3 instead of Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in April’s NFL Draft.
His official time in the 40-yard dash was 4.41 seconds, which was the fastest among any of the quarterbacks. However, according to the reining Heisman Trophy winner, he believes his time was actually 6 tenths of a second faster than that.
“I was told on the field that it was 4.35 officially. They told me it was faster than what the screen had posted,” Griffin told reporters. “If that happens to be the right time, that’s nothing to be mad about, 4.41 is a great time. But you want to make sure the right time is put up there.”
With everyone expecting the Colts to bring in Luck to replace Eli Manning, don’t be surprised if they have a sudden change of heart after seeing what Griffin brings. The Baylor Bears standout has actually interviews with 8 teams thus far, including the horseshoe. Can RG3 be drafted ahead of Luck based on his performance at the NFL Combine?
“I think I was able to go out there and affirm to the scouts how athletic I am, or impress them even more,” Griffin said. “I was able to show people that I am as advertised. I’m a good guy, I like to make people laugh. I can’t remember a meeting I didn’t go in and we weren’t laughing. You go there and do what you’re supposed to do, create a buzz for yourself.”
It’s worth noting that the St. Louis Rams have the second overall pick, which they have already come out and said are willing to trade immediately after. The Rams are willing to stick with Sam Bradford for the time being it seems. Bradford was taken with the first overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, was named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, but is coming off a disappointing season.
In his 10 starts this season, Bradford completed just 191 of his 357 pass attempts for 2,164 yards, 6 touchdowns and 6 interceptions for a quarterback rating of 70.5. He also had a very difficult time holding on to the football, coughing it up 10 times, out of which 7 went the other way. Would it be that crazy to imagine the Rams trading Bradford instead of either Luck or RG3 depending on who goes first? I think Bradford should be a little worries at this time, especially after seeing the show this young man is putting on at the NFL Combine! I would certainly take RG3 and trade Bradford should the Colts stick to their initial plans of taking the Stanford standout…
