Madonna Song Girls Gone Wild 2012 Super Bowl Performance Angers Joe Francis
As if the matchup between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants wasn’t exciting enough, we will have co-main event, if you will, during the 2012 Super Bowl Halftime Show. As we all know, Madonna will be performing this Sunday night in front of packed Lucas Oil Stadium, as well as many around the world watching on TV.
However, no one will be watching Madonna’s performance closer than “Girls Gone Wild” creator Joe Francis and his legal team. According to reports, Francis is furious, not only about the fact that the Material Girl made a song called Girls Gone Wild, but also about her intentions to perform it during the highly-watched Super Bowl Halftime Show.
In a document directed to Madonna’s team, NBCUniversal and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Francis issued a series of threats. TMZ first reported that a Cease and Desist letter was sent to all the aforementioned parties demanding that the pop icon refrains from performing the now infamous GGW song, which happens to be the first song on the album.
“Your misappropriation of my clients’ trademark will not be tolerated,” reads the letter. However, it is believed that Francis is willing to cut a deal with the megastar, but rumors are that she doesn’t intend to perform the song either way.
Various reports, including one from the New York Post, have surfaced containing the songs that she will perform during her 12-minute set Sunday night:
“Give Me All Your Luvin”
“Ray of Light”
“Vogue”
“Music”
“Holiday”
Francis argument in the letter is that Madonna “violated Federal and State trademark laws by making unauthorized use of Mr. Francis’ trademark Girls Gone Wild in not only the title, but subject line of her various advertisements in order to lure potential consumers to purchase her latest musical effort.”
It’s going to be interesting to see how this whole thing will play out, considering Madonna isn’t one to back down from a challenge. What will she do? Will she find a way to do whatever she pleases despite the legal threats?
