madonna performs 2012 super bowl halftime showAt the age of 53, it’s hard to imagine many things Madonna hasn’t done, both on stage and off it. Thanks to the NFL, we managed to find one! On December 4th 2011, the National Football League officially announced that the “Material Girl” would headline the 2012 Super Bowl Halftime Show on February 5th, 2012, for the very first time in her career. Super Bowl XLVI will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN, and it’ll be broadcasted live on NBC.

Rumors indicate that Madonna (Louise Ciccone) will be working with Jamie King, Moment Factory and Cirque du Soleil in the entertainment portion of football’s biggest night. It is also believed that Madonna will perform her upcoming single, “Give Me All Your Love” in collaboration with English singer/song-writer, M.I.A. and American female rapper, Nicki Minaj.

Madonna, a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, joins names like Bruce Springsteen, Prince, U2, Paul McCartney, The Who and the Rolling Stones as the most recent SB Halftime performers. The Super Bowl Halftime Show is the most watched musical event every year, if you can believe it. It is estimated that over 162 million people in the United States tune in every year to watch it. Due to the state of the NFL this season, the 2012 Super Bowl is expected to supersede those numbers, especially if the Green Bay Packers can make it to the big game unbeaten.

Madonna, who has sold over 300 million records worldwide, is infamous for her legendary and controversial on-stage performances. Although one of her most memorable ones ended by French-kissing Britney Spears at the MTV VMAs, it’s doubtful she would be able to be given that sort of leeway, especially after what happened with Janet Jackson’s infamous wardrobe malfunction a few years back. Madonna is on the verge of finishing a new film and studio album titled “W.E.” which she directed, wrote and produced.

The film is expected to be released in the U.S. two days before the Super Bowl, on February 3rd, 2012, and her twelfth album release is expected to hit the shelves later in the spring.
