2011 bcs standings week 8 ncaa football rankingsThe initial 2011 BCS Standings have been released in the week 8 NCAA Football Rankings and although the same 10 teams are in the Top 10 of the BCS and the AP Polls, there are slight differences in the order of how they are ranked. The top three spots are the same in both polls, with No.1 LSU (7-0, 4-0 SEC), No.2 Alabama (7-0, 4-0 SEC) and No.3 Oklahoma (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) coming in at one, two and three respectively.

A lot of college football betting experts were impressed with the way Clemson (7-0, 4-0 ACC) came back from a big deficit last week and they come in at No.7 in the BCS just ahead of No.8 Stanford (6-0, 4-0 Pac 12).

The AP Polls have those two teams flip-flopped after the college football week 7 action and the same scenario applies to the No.9 and No.10 spots. The week 8 BCS Standings are ranking the Arkansas Razorbacks (5-1, 1-1 SEC) and the Oregon Ducks (5-1, 3-0 Pac 12) at No.9 and No.10, respectively, but the AP polls have the only two one-loss teams ranked in the opposite order. Almost sneaking into the first BCS Top 10 Rankings is undefeated No.11 Kansas State (6-0, 3-0 Big 12), who has put on an impressive run to start the season. There may be plenty of shakeup in these rankings come Saturday with several top 10 teams facing stiffer competition.

The No.1 LSU Tigers will host No.20 Auburn at Tiger Stadium at 3:30pm ET on CBS and although most people were impressed with Auburn after their college football week 7 win over Florida, this is going to be a totally different beast for them in a hostile environment. The No.8 Stanford Cardinal have a Pac 12 date with No.25 Washington (5-1, 3-0 Pac 12) and much like the LSU vs Auburn matchup, I think the home team wins big here. The Top 10 team that is on highest upset alert heading into week 8 is No.6 Wisconsin.

The Badgers will travel to Spartan Stadium to face the No.16 Michigan State Spartans (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) at 8:00pm ET on ESPN and although Russell Wilson has been stellar for Wisconsin so far, I don’t see him getting past the nation’s No.1 ranked defense. The NCAA odds for this game have Wisconsin favored by 9.5 points in this one, but I like the home underdog to produce a fat payout in this game. The Spartans are tough against the pass, which is the strength of the Badgers, so I see Michigan State hanging in close until the end and making sure that this game is decided by no more than one score.

The National Championship will (most likely) be one of the following combinations: LSU vs Oklahoma, LSU vs Oklahoma St., Alabama vs Oklahoma, Alabama vs Oklahoma St…LSU and Alabama square off on November 5 in Tuscaloosa while Oklahoma and Oklahoma St. meet in Stillwater on December 3rd. While it is not a given, all four teams should be able to run the table outside of those head-to-head matchups.
