UFC Live 5 Fight Card Preview
UFC Live 5 airs Sunday night with eight preliminary bouts on Facebook then a four fight main card live on Versus. There are some intriguing fights and fighters on this card that, frankly, could make this card more entertaining than the recent pay per view UFC 133.
Perhaps the most notable name on the preliminary card is Ed Herman who will be taking on Kyle Noke in a middleweight bout. Herman came to prominence as a contestant in The Ultimate Fighter Season 3. He is 5-4 since losing in the finale of the TUF and will be looking to get back on track with this fight.
The person who must be unhappy about being on the preliminary card is Karlos Vemola. At 8-1 Vemola is looking to continue to step up. He was originally slated to fight fan favorite Stephan Bonnar which likely would have landed him on the main card. Bonnar got hurt and was replaced with Ronny Markes, another hot young prospect. It could be a good fight, but it is now on the Facebook card.
The main card starts with a Welterweight bout with Amir Sadollah taking on Duane Ludwig. Sadollah is also a TUF alum having won Season 7. He came into the show with no professional experience and only four amateur fights. Ludwig is a veteran with more than 30 pro fights under his belt including 20 wins. He will prove to be some strong competition for the up and coming Sadollah.
In a Lightweight bout we will get to see one of the big prospects that came over from the WEC when Donald Cerrone takes on Charles Oliveira. Cerrone has been featured on the Tapout TV show and is an exciting striker with a kickboxing background. He has won the Fight of the Night honors multiple times and is on a hot streak with four straight wins. Oliveira should prove to be an interesting match for him. A BJJ specialist, Oliveria will likely want to take Cerrone down and Cerrone will want to stand and strike. Oliveira recently suffered his first loss followed by a no contest due to an illegal knee. Cerrone was originally supposed to face Paul Taylor who was replacing the injured John Makdessi. Taylor broke his foot and Oliveira is now the opponent. Sometimes these last minute matches create some serious fire.
In the co-main event Lightweight contender Jim Miller steps in against Ben Henderson. Henderson is the former WEC Lightweight Champion before losing the belt to Anthony Pettis. He, like Miller, is in the conversation as a potential challenger to Lightweight champ Frankie Edgar. Both guys want to prove they deserve a title shot so this may be one hell of a fight.
In the main event Welterweights Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle step into the octagon. Hardy fought Georges St. Pierre for the title in March of 2010 and lost. He has lost both his fights since and is looking to get himself back on track. Chris Lytle is also coming off a loss to Brian Ebersole. While he did lose, the fight won Fight of the Night honors at UFC 127. Lytle is always entertaining and has been in against some of the best in the world. He should prove to be very stiff competition for Hardy.
If nothing else this card offers a lot of bang for the buck, but it has the potential to be a very good card. It is a free on Facebook and cable network Verses and has 12 bouts in all. The Facebook fights start airing live at 4:45pm ET. The main card airs live 9PM ET on Versus.
